Best Debt Management

The first step is talking to your debt management consultant about your overall financial situation. The consultant will review your monthly income and compare it to your total monthly expenses to get a complete picture of your unique circumstances. The consultant will then contact your creditors to inform them of your intention to enter a debt management program. CredAbility has been in business for over 50 years and maintains contact with an extensive network of creditors. It is often possible to negotiate lower interest rates, which will help you pay off your debt more quickly. Reputable Credit Counseling

Reputable debt management companies have nothing to hide. Most nonprofit debt management companies are government subsidized and voluntarily follow strict industry standards set forth by third party organizations. To maintain their licensing and accreditation, these companies must put their agreements in writing. Reputable debt management companies use clear, everyday language and allow potential clients to take as much time as needed to review the agreement and ask questions. If an agency tries to lock you into a verbal agreement, you should seek assistance elsewhere.

Many creditors offer favorable repayment terms to consumers who enroll in a DMP, including interest rates ranging from 6% to 10% on their credit card debt. These creditors may also eliminate late fees and penalties once a consumer enrolls in a DMP with a nonprofit credit counseling organization.
At CredAbility, certified counselors help consumers determine whether they can tackle their financial challenges through budgeting and reduced spending, or if the structure of a debt management plan will be more effective.
What is a Debt Management Plan?
For a small monthly fee, consumers make a single payment to an agency like CredAbility, which acts as a trustee in distributing the funds to creditors. CredAbility works with both clients and creditors to design a debt repayment program that minimizes monthly payments, interest and related fees, providing a manageable tailored plan for the client. This enables the client to repay their entire debt obligation at more favorable terms, and on a plan that is within their ability to pay.

Help for debt

When is the Right Time to Get Help for Debt?

If your debts are starting to feel like they’re taking over your personal finances it may be the time to seek help for debt repayment. There are organizations available to you that can help you build a debt repayment plan, and in some cases, even help you decrease your minimum monthly payments to make them more manageable.
If you have already tried budgeting and are finding it difficult to meet your payments, pay down your debt, and still live a half decent life, it’s probably time to seek help for debt repayment. If you’re finding difficulties, it’s all too easy to continue taking on additional debts just to get by on a week to week basis. And that is a slippery slope, which can eventually become extremely difficult to come back from without declaring bankruptcy.
If you’re already there, you’re still alright. There are things you can do. You can work with a credit counseling organization and review your alternative solutions. If you’re approaching that place, it’s probably a good idea to seek help for your debt before your financial situation gets any more difficult for you to maintain. Regardless of where you stand, if you’re considering getting help for debt repayment, it is a good idea to start sooner rather than later.

Debt Settlement Loan

debt settlement loan is ideal for those who have unsecured debt, such as credit cards, medical bills, and personal loans. Student loans, mortgages, and automotive loans do not qualify as they are “secured” by something of value.  A debt settlement counselor works with your creditors to negotiate a settlement less than the current balance, sometimes to as low as 35-50% of the balance.  Once the negotiations are complete, the debt settlement loan is made, a payment plan is drafted, and the road to financial freedom is paved.

Our counselors can also assist in matters of bankruptcy and foreclosure.  Our counselors are expert negotiators and are able to determine the best possible terms and resolution for your unique situation.  Foreclosure and bankruptcy are scary — don’t face them alone.  An expert advocate is crucial to a favorable outcome.
Whether you’ve found yourself in debt after an illness or injury, a period of unemployment in which credit cards were your only option for survival, or any other unforeseen circumstance, we can help by negotiating with your creditors and setting you up with a debt settlement loan.  Our services (except bankruptcy services) are free.  We’ll put our 40 years of experience — and our hearts — into helping you and your family rediscover financial freedom.  We’re just waiting for you to make the first move.

Close unnecessary bank accounts
Most individual financial needs can be satisfied by maintaining two types of accounts: a checking account and a savings account. The more accounts you have open, the more difficult it is to keep track of your money and your spending. Simplifying your banking and reducing your accounts to the two basic types will help you effectively monitor your spending and stick to your budget. If you are constantly transferring money back and forth between several different accounts, you are more likely to lose control over your expenses and make costly mistakes. The best debt management adviceis often the simplest. Keeping your accounts simple will help you meet your financial goals more quickly and with considerably less stress along the way.
Consider automatic payments
Many creditors offer discounts and special incentives for customers who choose to enroll in automatic payments. Occasionally, you can even obtain a lower interest rate by agreeing to have your payments auto-deducted each month. Be careful, though, because automatic payments will hurt your budget if you have unforeseen expenses or truly cannot handle having payments removed on a set schedule. Follow your credit counselor’s debt management advice and only sign up for auto pay if it makes sense for your individual situation. If your finances are tight, consider enrolling in automatic payments for larger bills like your mortgage payment. Auto pay will help you pay on time every time and avoid late penalties and negative items on your credit report.

Pay bills online
Online banking is much easier and more accurate than keeping track in an old fashioned checking account ledger. When you manage your payments online, you can stay on top of due dates and avoid paying late. Online checking also allows you to see your finances in real time, which helps you avoid overdrafts and fees.
Streamline your debtJuggling too many creditors often results in missed payments and late fees, which can raise your interest rates and increase your overall debt. If you are enrolled in a debt management plan, you have probably already followed the debt management advice provided by your credit counselor and reduced the number of creditors you owe. One of the main benefits of a debt management plan is eliminating the task of keeping track of several bills with different due dates each month. If you are not currently active in a debt management plan, ask your credit counselor for debt management advice regarding reducing your creditors to the lowest number possible.

Every situation is unique, but we can help you better understand the foreclosure process and the paths that may be open to you. We can also connect you with your lender to help maintain the communications link so important before and during the foreclosure process. Afterwards, you’ll receive an action plan to help you get back on track.

Debt Management Agency

Not all debt management agencies – or their plans – are created equal. In2005, Congress enacted sweeping changes to existing Chapter 7 and Chapter 13bankruptcy laws. One of the most significant amendments made pre-bankruptcycredit counseling mandatory. Individuals who wish to file bankruptcy must nowpay for a credit counseling course before they can even file a petition. In thewake of these changes, the credit counseling landscape has become overrun byagencies offering credit counseling courses and debt management advice. Many claimthey can help consumers pay down or eliminate debt. In reality, not everycredit counseling agency has consumers’ best interests in mind. With so manyagencies online, it is difficult to sort through the promises to find the best debt management companies. Never make minimum payments
One common credit mistaking is assuming you can get by making minimum payments. The less you pay, the more interest you accrue, which leads to a larger balance. Credit card balances can quickly snowball, wreaking havoc on your financial health. The more money you can pay toward your principle balance, the less you will spend on interest. Focus your efforts on the credit cards with the highest interest rates first and work your way down from there.
Avoid late payments
Even a handful of late payments can cause serious damage to your credit score. Lenders use your credit score to determine what type of risk you pose as a potential borrower. While an occasional 30-day late here and there will not significantly lower your score, a series of late payments or severely delinquent accounts can rapidly drop your score. Once your credit is damaged, it is difficult to repair. A seriously low score can take years to recover. Stay on top of your bills and use credit sparingly to avoid getting in over your head. Avoiding late payments is one of the most important parts of making credit and debt management work to your advantage.
At CredAbility, certified counselors help consumers determine whether they can tackle their financial challenges through budgeting and reduced spending, or if the structure of a debt management plan will be more effective.
The key to reclaiming your financial independence is recognizing the need for help and getting it. At CredAbility, certified counselors will help you evaluate your financial situation and find the solution that best suits you. Credit Cards Debt Settlement

Paying off the card with the highest interest rate first
Continue paying the minimum monthly payment on all of your cards, but allot additional money to be paid to the card with the highest interest rate each month. This strategy technically saves you more money than paying off the card with the lowest balance first, but will typically take longer to start “feeling” like you’re getting results.

While CredAbility already provides counseling to consumers in all 50 states, this acquisition enables CredAbility to expand its face-to-face counseling offices to a fifth state in the southeast. CredAbility already has 28 offices in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi.
“This is exciting news for both organizations.” said Suzanne Boas, president of CredAbility. “We provide many of the same services and share the same values. Combining the Compass/CCCS program with CredAbility will enable us to serve additional clients in the southeast.”
“We are pleased that our CCCS program will join a national nonprofit credit counseling agency that can provide our clients with additional services,” said Thomas Bannister, president of Compass of Carolina. “The addition ofCredAbility’s housing counseling services, its 24/7 convenience and its bilingual staff will benefit many residents of upstate South Carolina.”

Credit Card Debt Problems

Paying off the card with the lowest balance first
Sometimes called “snowballing,” because the effect accumulates and helps you feel like you’re making a lot of progress in a relatively short amount of time. This is where you make all of your minimum payments but you make additional payments to the card with the lowest balance, helping you remove a creditor from your list of monthly payments as quickly as possible. The best way to continue after paying off the first card is to use the full amount of payments that you were making, but applying it to the card with the next lowest balance. This strategy helps you rapidly decrease the required minimum monthly payments for you to pay.
Seeking non profit credit card counseling to help you combine your minimum payments into one manageable payment
When your debts become extremely difficult to manage, or seem like they may take forever to pay off, you can try out a non profit credit card counseling agency to arrange a debt management plan that will help you by combining all of your credit card debts into one low monthly payment. The plan that a credit card counselor will set you up with will usually prevent you from accruing any additional debt, and will give you a definite time when your debts will be fully repaid. For an example of a non profit credit card counseling agency, check out Credability.org

Say no to store cards
It is tempting to sign up for instant credit offers in retail stores – especially when the deal comes with a discount. Department store cards are rarely a good investment, however, and can end up hurting your credit store. Store cards often carry high interest rates, which make them difficult to manage. Most consumers will also spend more if given the option to use a card instead of cash.
If you have any questions, a Certified Credit Counselor is available to assist you as you go through the process.
Just a reminder, completing the counseling session is free, is not a binding contract, and all information remains confidential.
Remember, we are here to help. Our counselors are available nationwide, 24/7-by telephone and online-in both English and Spanish. We’ve helped thousands of people, just like you, get through periods of financial crisis.
If you would prefer to complete your DMP session by phone, please call 800.251.2227 to schedule an appointment with a Budget & Credit counselor today.
For those clients living in the following states or territories: Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands, we are able to provide Budget and Credit counseling – as well as our other counseling services, but are not able to offer a Debt Management Plan. We can, however, provide you with information on who in your state could provide a DMP.
